Our Mission
SCSJ's Research Program provides quantitative and qualitative data collection, research, and analysis in support of litigation and policy advocacy in the voting rights, justice system reform, and environmental justice program areas.
Our team collaborates with each program area to define, develop, and execute both short- and long-term research plans that support organizational goals, and promote systems change for the advancement of racial equity and social justice. We also provide grassroots community organizations with data driven insight and analysis to advance their own social, political, and economic interests.
Our Work
Quantitative Research
SCSJ’s Quantitative Research team focuses on analyzing broad swathes of data to look for patterns, connections, and overlooked details.
Qualitative Research

GIS Data Analysis
SCSJ conducts Geographic Information System Data Analysis to visualize patterns and identify trends within a geographic context.
How We Advance Social Justice
Improving Contextual Awareness for Focus Areas
By assembling large amounts of data into succinct and easily accessible content, our focus areas can better gain data-centric contextual awareness that supports legal and advocacy work.
Creating Interactive Online Tools
With tools like the Sampson County Landfill Origins Explorer, Open Data Policing, and the SRO Grievance Tool, SCSJ offers a variety of data-centric, interactive resources for the community.
Empathy-Building through Qualitative Data
Through ethnographic research and interviews, SCSJ compiles observational data to better understand and advocate for our impacted communities.
