Amplifying Voices of Underserved Communities
Our Communications team helps underserved communities stand up for their rights and push back against injustice.
OUR WORK
We use strong storytelling and practical know-how to make sure communities can speak for themselves and be heard by decision-makers.
Communications Work
We can help with traditional communications, such as op-eds, press releases, and media coordination and training, but also specialize in thinking outside the box, whether it’s through long-form storytelling, creating and planning public education events or toolkits, or leading U.S. Supreme Court communications campaigns. We also connect communities with other people and organizations who can help them reach their goals.
We make complicated issues easy to understand so that people of all backgrounds can follow and take part. Our work ranges from creating simple brochures that explain things like redistricting, to full toolkits that share resources on reentry after incarceration—and everything in between.
SCSJ hosts a variety of events — from legal hearing watch parties and community organizing panel discussions to educational webinars and film screenings — all aimed at engaging our communities. These events most often involve collaboration with partner organizations and/or community members.
We pride ourselves in uplifting the voices of community leaders through multimedia channels. We work alongside community leaders and advocates to tell their own stories in the most meaningful way.
Communications Core Strategies
Uplifting Community Voices
SCSJ provides platforms for the folks on the frontlines; community members who are living the reality of uniquely Southern struggles, as well as advocates, lawyers, lawmakers, and others who are fighting back, creating solutions, changing the narrative, and forcefully demanding equal rights for all.
Creating Community Resources
We offer a variety of digital and print-based community resources that make complex issues easily digestible. Resources include step-by-step guides, brochures, digital tools, infographics, and much more.
Collaborating with Media Outlets
Our team works with media outlets to improve visibility for social justice issues and serves as a liaison between communities and journalists to improve engagement and understanding.
