Max joined SCSJ’s Justice System Reform Team in 2026, as an Equal Justice Works Fellow, sponsored by Lowe’s Companies, Inc., and Riley, Safer, Holmes, and Cancila, LLP. Their project focuses on expanding resources and representation for incarcerated parole candidates in North Carolina.
A lifelong Southerner, Max believes deeply in the potential of community-oriented lawyering to disrupt and transform systems of power. Before law school, they worked as a paralegal in Legal Aid of North Carolina, Inc.’s Charlotte Housing Unit, where they assisted low-income tenants threatened with eviction and subsidy termination. At UNC Law, Max further developed their passion for direct services through pro bono work, internships at Legal Aid’s Smoky Mountain Offices and Disability Rights North Carolina, and UNC’s Immigration Clinic. They graduated with high honors in May of 2026, and are beyond grateful for the opportunity to learn from the SCSJ team and advocate on behalf of parole candidates across our state.
