GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 20, 2026) — Guilford County residents will march and rally Tuesday ahead of a Board of Elections meeting where members are expected to decide on an early voting plan.
Southern Coalition for Social Justice sent a letter Friday to the Guilford County Board of Elections urging members to adopt a plan that would provide adequate and fair opportunities for early voting to all voters in the county. It also encourages the Board to add voting sites at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and NC A&T — two of the largest college campuses in the state — to accommodate growing early voting use and ensure availability for voters without access to a vehicle or who are more likely to need same-day registration.
The letter also asks that current plans be shared publicly, and specifically that the board disclose proposals for the 2026 General Election early voting plan ahead of their vote.
“The Board should adopt the plan that logically reflects which sites voters have relied on in recent elections and that provides opportunities to vote to all people across the County,” the letter states. “Any plan cutting the number of sites risks depriving Guilford County voters of their right to cast a ballot in the 2026 general election. Black, low-income, and student voters would be affected by these plans most acutely.”
There will be a community march and rally ahead of the Board of Elections meeting that starts at 2 p.m. Since the Board won’t allow public comment during the meeting itself, residents will read their comments aloud at the rally, which begins an hour earlier at 1 p.m.
