Gary Traynor is a specialist in building early-stage technology companies, ensuring scalable growth with an operational and financial plan. Before getting involved with tech startups, Mr. Traynor worked in banking for 10 years, most recently in Morgan Stanley’s Technology Investment Banking group in New York where he managed IPOs, Secondary Offerings and M&A for the firm’s technology clients. He then leveraged this experience to take on more entrepreneurial challenges as a hands-on operational leader at a variety of venture-backed companies in the NYC area. From 2003 to 2018, Mr. Traynor was a full-time interim CEO, COO or CFO for six venture backed companies. Mr. Traynor developed a framework for managing scalable growth and he refers to this framework as 5 Gravities. In 2019 he founded a company named 5 Gravities to advise early-stage, emerging growth software companies on operations and finance for scale.

Mr. Traynor’s primary expertise is in working with company founders and their investors to plan and implement a scalable operational strategy while also coordinating a capital raising strategy, typically in the Series A and B rounds. His educational background is in accounting, finance, economics and corporate law. He received his undergraduate degree in business at Washington University in St. Louis and completed his JD/MBA at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. In addition to his role on the Board at SCSJ, Mr. Traynor is an advisor on the Leadership Council for the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC.
