Bodily autonomy is a fundamental right of all people. The right to access abortion and comprehensive, culturally-competent healthcare is essential to bodily autonomy. In light of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs overturning Roe and Casey, two longstanding legal precedents protecting access to abortion and contraception, we must do everything we can to win reproductive justice and guarantee bodily autonomy for all Americans, and especially all Southerners.
We know this ruling will have devastating consequences for our neighbors who are cis women, low-wealth, people of color, transgender and gender non-conforming, and communities of color all across our region, many of whom already live in states where the right to abortion is functionally nonexistent.
Abortion funds and reproductive justice organizers need support right now. In states like North and South Carolina, people still have access to legal abortion.
