How List Maintenance Disproportionately Impacts Black and Brown Voters
Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians have been removed from the voter rolls this year as part of the State Board of Elections’ routine large-scale voter list maintenance. Southern Coalition for Social Justice has continued its analysis of this process—commonly referred to as “list maintenance”—and the findings confirm troubling patterns seen in previous years: the removals remain overly aggressive and risk disenfranchising eligible voters, with Black and Latino voters once again disproportionately impacted.
