CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 4, 2024) — The following is statement from Cate Mayer, founder and director of Be the Ones:

“I applaud Circuit Court Judge Daniel Coble’s decision to extend South Carolina’s voter registration deadline to Monday, October 14th given the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This decision reflects what truly matters – centering the needs of South Carolinians.

When communities face loss and uncertainty, ensuring they can participate in our democracy is not just important, but essential. This extension also underscores the value in our state adopting pro-democracy policies, like same-day voter registration, which would further protect and amplify every South Carolinian’s voice, even during times of crisis.

Be The Ones remains committed to supporting our neighbors as they recover from this hurricane and dedicated to helping every eligible voter have their voice heard in this upcoming election.”

Note: Eligible voters in South Carolina must be registered to vote by Monday, Oct. 14 in order to vote in the Nov. 5 general election. More information about how to register, including online registration, is available at scvotes.org.
