Kaisha Young joined the Southern Coalition for Social Justice in 2026 as a Communications Consultant supporting the SOLVE Network. As a South Carolina native, Kaisha’s work is deeply informed by her roots in the region and her commitment to making the mechanics of power understandable to everyone.
Kaisha’s career is built on a foundation of rigorous storytelling. After studying Communication at Clemson University, she earned her master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She then spent years navigating local and national newsrooms in Maryland, Michigan, and Washington, D.C., covering the intersection of politics and public policy.
In 2022, Kaisha returned to her home region as the only PBS NewsHour producer based in the South. In that role, she broke down complex political systems and centered the voices of everyday people. At SCSJ, she carries this mission forward. For Kaisha, communication is a vital tool for civic engagement and a means of ensuring that the South’s diverse communities are seen, heard, and empowered.
